Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association pushes for stronger sustainability frameworks
Titled Data Centres and Energy Sustainability: A Regional Perspective on Best Practices and Policy Frameworks, the paper was released on Oct 27 and lays out approaches to lower the environmental impact of information facilities while fulfilling the surging need for digital framework in Asia-Pacific (APAC).
Pushed by cloud adoption, electronic companies and artificial intelligence (AI), regional request for information centres is predicted to expand almost 20% each year through 2028. The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that Southeast Asia’s information centre electricity use will almost double by 2030 contrasted to 2024– a pattern mirrored across the bigger APAC area.
The Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) has released a new white paper calling for stronger guideline and sector collaboration to improve energy sustainability throughout data centers in the area.
Amongst the examples presented is Singapore’s BCA-IMDA Green Mark for Data Centres (GMDC)– a certification scheme jointly created by the Infocomm Media Advancement Authority (IMDA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to acknowledge information facilities with strong sustainability performance and energy-efficient practices.
” Balancing power sustainability with the growing request for digital facilities is just one of APAC’s defining hurdles,” claims Jeremy Deutsch, chair of APDCA. “With the best plan frameworks, Asia-Pacific governments can ensure that digital improvement breakthroughs hand in hand with net-zero ambitions.”
Developers are urged to team up carefully with regulators and industry associates to establish constant power effectiveness criteria throughout the APAC markets.
The white paper highlights best techniques to improve power efficiency throughout the data centre lifecycle– from location option, design and building to operations and monitoring. It additionally advises plan actions to accelerate access to clean and renewable energy with stronger grid framework and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
The APDCA members involve leading worldwide providers, such as AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, and Princeton Digital Group.
